About
The Music Education program at Shenandoah Conservatory offers Music Making classes for area home school students during the fall and spring semesters.
The ten-week class will feature a weekly 45-minute in-person class for your elementary aged child taught by Shenandoah Conservatory senior music education majors. Your child will also be provided with additional activities to enjoy in between live sessions using Google Classroom.
Engaged Students
Children are engaged in a wide variety of active musical experiences in each class that involve combinations of singing, playing instruments, movement, reading notation, listening, composing, and improvising. Instruction in the multi-aged classroom is differentiated to meet the needs of the students to provide the most appropriate challenge and learning experience for each student. When class size allows, we are able to provide instruction for separate upper and lower age groups for more targeted skill development.
Experienced Educators
Classes in the spring term are co-taught by an experienced master music teacher and our third-year music education students who have completed a methods course and a semester of field experience teaching in local schools. Classes in the fall are taught by the same music education majors in their last semester before student teaching full time. The faculty member then serves as a supervisor and mentor.
Spring 2024 Registration
In-person classes for children ages 5 to 11 years old will be run on Wednesday mornings at 9 a.m. from Sept. 11 through Nov. 20, 2024, in Ruebush Hall, Room 209. Additional activities may be accessed at any time. Registration is $20 for the first child and $10 for each additional child attending.
